What to expect

What should you expect at your first Physical Therapy visit?

On your appointment day arrive on time with your insurance card(s), ID, and prescription if needed.  To save time when you arrive, you can download the required paperwork from this website, complete what you can, and bring it with you to your appointment. If not, arrive 15 minutes early to fill out the required paperwork. Please bring any relevant information with you such as imaging, diagnostic testing, or reports for your physical therapist to review.

Once the paperwork is completed, your physical therapist will

introduce him/herself to you and escort you to a treatment table

for the initial evaluation (IE).  The IE will cover both the history

and the present status of your current condition. Followed

by an assessment of your impairments such as pain levels, range of

motion (ROM), strength, and functional limitations.

After the IE is completed, your physical therapist will discuss the findings and prognosis to create a comphrensive treatment plan. The treatment plan will consist of a warm-up including stretching/ROM, and appropriate strengthening exercises. This will be followed with manual therapy, and modalities such as electric stimulation, low level laser, and hot/cold therapy when needed. You will always be supervised by your Physical Therapist and assisted by a Physical Therapy aide during your treatment session.  Please budget approximately 1 hour for each subsequent treatment session and dress prepared to exercise.

NOTE: CANCELLATION POLICY: Therapist time is reserved for your appointment – if you are unable to keep your appointment, we kindly ask that you provide us with 24-hour advance notice of cancellation. If you fail to cancel a scheduled appointment 24 hours in advance, or “no-show” an appointment, we reserve the right to assess a $50.00 cancellation fee.
